If Bowlmor Lanes wasn’t enough in terms of originality and vibe, Strike Holdings “strikes” again with a vengeance.
This past Thursday, February 25th, I was lucky enough to attend Purim Party 2010 at Carnival hosted by The Manhattan Jewish Experience. It was a great night filled with individuals dressed in creative costumes, food and drinks. There was even a costume contest and believe me, people got crafty. I don’t think there was anyone walking around without a smile on their face…good times. Carnival is presented by Bowlmor Lanes, and is unlike any I’ve been to.
Carnival is located at 110 University Place between 12th and 13th St. directly above Bowlmor Lanes. For those of you who don’t know, Bowlmor Lanes is the legendary, upscale, ridiculously fun bowling alley. It was at the forefront of taking bowling alleys to a higher level of luxury and style. And if you thought Strike Holdings (owner of Bowlmor) couldn’t do any better…guess again. Their newest venture, Carnival, has become one of the hottest new nightclubs in NYC. There are some traditional aspects but in my opinion, Carnival transcends that of the everyday nightclub. For example: Do the nightclubs you go to offer the ability to actually play Carnival games? I am going to go out on a limb here and say probably not. Do the nightclubs you go to offer the ability to watch live performances? Maybe they do, but I don’t think those performances include contortionists, jugglers, stilt walkers and sword swallowers. At Carnival, you can see these types of performers and be amazed.
The atmosphere brings us back to our younger years when we all tried to get the ball in a cup and win a Goldfish! Strike Holdings has created a fantastic, almost imaginary world where people can regress back to their
youth. Although please keep in mind, that Carnival is still a nightclub where drinking, dancing and VIP service are all available at your disposal.
If you’re looking for a place to celebrate your birthday, bachelor/bachelorette party or escape for a few hours at night, make it a point to go to Carnival….a nightclub combined with a regression mechanism.
