Williamsburg’s very own Brooklyn Bowl set the stage for a night of fun and fundraising on August 9 as a group of New Yorkers raised awareness toward the fight against breast cancer. Bowling for Boobs raised $820 for the Avon Breast Cancer Foundation, with 100 percent of the event’s proceeds going toward the cause.
“We chose to raise money for breast cancer awareness simply because it’s real to us,” said fundraiser organizer Nora Rachlin, who put together this event alongside Stacey Alfonso and Lisa Cunningham-Davis. “We each know, or sadly knew, too many women fighting. We feel it’s our duty as healthy women to help them fight the best way we can.”
For a small donation, bowlers were granted unlimited bowling time plus shoe rentals. While not on the lanes, they moved and grooved to the beat of Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia tunes performed by cover band The Jam Stampede. The band took the Brooklyn Bowl stage, opening with crowd-pleaser “Sugaree.”
