The Trattoria
There’s no more exciting place to be in Manhattan than the Theater District during the hour or so before the performances begin. The teeming, animated crowds spill over the sidewalks into the streets. There’s electricity in the air. There’s a large, Theater District restaurant that captures that energy as well as serving some mighty good Italian food. The sprawling Trattoria Dopo Teatro just east of Times Square on 44th Street is a convenient, big, bustling and deservedly successful spot whose modest sized storefront gives no hint of the handsome multi-leveled restaurant within. diners.
Pesce Pasta
Located at 1562 3rd Avenue between 87th and 88th Streets, Pesce Pasta has all the trimmings. The ambiance has the feel of a small town in Italy. It is a warm, classy and comfortable atmosphere. The staff makes you feel welcomed and provides excellent service.
The menu was filled with all the classic Italian cuisine and a list of specials. I have to say that I struggled trying to find the right entrée to order, finally I settled on the Ravioli stuffed with meat. I added a little twist of my own to the dish and asked for Vodka sauce instead of the tomato sauce. I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but a great call! The dish was not only delicious, but it was light. I was comfortably full and had plenty of room to continue on with the standard Thursday night activities.
I have to mention as well that Pesce Pasta is also reasonably priced. The economy is tough on all of us right now, so it’s nice to find a restaurant where you can eat and drink well but not burn a hole in your pocket.
Next time you’re looking for a place to
eat, take a trip uptown or stay in the neighborhood and enjoy Pesce Pasta…a hidden gem on the Upper East Side.
